Glenda Bone
I have always loved gardening. My grandparents and my parents were all gardeners. I grew up planting and picking vegetables along side my dad and flowers with my mom. My dad always planted enough to feed an army even though there were only the three of us. What we didn’t eat or can was given to friends, coworkers and fellow church members.
After college I moved into an apartment in Kansas City with my college roommate. She was a farm girl and I was a country girl and we were living in an apartment with a three by five balcony for outdoor space. We had plants all over the balcony and in the apartment, but we missed having a garden. A few years later I bought my first house in St. Louis and that’s when the gardening bug really started to flourish. I built raised beds for my vegetables and planted many, many perennials. The more I gardened the more I wanted to know, so in 2016 I became a Certified Master Gardener through the Missouri Botanical Garden In St. Louis. Since that time I have continued to share my love of gardening by volunteering on various community garden projects and speaking to anybody and everybody who is willing to listen.

I am a native of the St Louis area and a retired Registered Nurse. I am
retired from Barnes-Jewish Hospital (20 yrs) and the U.S Air Force (30 yrs).
When I retired in 2010, my next step was going to be, ‘People, Plants or
Pets’. I chose plants and haven’t looked back! I started volunteering at the
Missouri Botanical Garden in 2011 and work in the Climatron and the Rose
Gardens. I was a Plant Doctor for the Garden for 7 years and also became a
Docent, giving tours throughout the Garden. I also work many of the special
events at the garden, my favorites being the Best of Missouri Market and the
Japanese Festival. I completed the Master Gardener course at the Missouri
Botanical Garden in 2016 along with becoming an Advanced Master
Gardener. I am a member of The St Louis Herb Society and the Wild Ones, a
native plant organization. My yard is certified Platinum by the Audubon
Society. I also volunteer at Forest ReLeaf, a state funded program that grows
trees for local communities.
My husband and I live in Webster Groves and have three children between us.
We have 4 grandchildren and 2 great grand-children! Life is awesome!
